| Rancho Santa Rosa Ideally situated in the Santa Rita Hills AVA, Rancho Santa Rosa is planted to 118 acres of Pinot Noir. Vineyard Managers at the Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard located in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, affectionately refer to this site as “the amphitheatre,” in reference to the land’s bowl-like inclines where the Pinot Noir grapes are planted. Each year we receive a variety of clones including 667, 777, 2A and Pommard, which are vinified separately throughout the aging process until final blending. A strong entry leads to layers of dark fruits and pomegranate with notes of vanilla in the finish. Soil and climate The majority of the Pinot Noir is planted on the steep upper, south facing hillsides, an area that features subsoils rich in limestone deposits. The vineyard’s 59 micro blocks, that contain fossilized clay and sandy loam, set the stage for some of the most expressive and diverse Pinot Noir we contract. |
